Double-Sided Lightbox: Helping Corridor Shops Be Seen from Both Directions

Double-Sided Lightbox: Helping Corridor Shops Be Seen from Both Directions

In mall corridors, corners, open walkways and other two-way traffic locations, customers do not always approach a shop from directly in front. A double-sided lightbox gives them a clear brand-recognition point from both directions before they reach the shop.

Start with how customers approach the shop

A double-sided lightbox can suit corridors with traffic from both ends, shops near a corner or intersection, frontages that are easily obscured, or locations where customers need to recognise the shop name before arriving. If customers only approach from one direction, or the frontage already has the best sightline, it may not be the priority. Study movement before choosing a shape.

What problem should it solve?

Site condition Role of the lightbox Design priority It does not replace
Long corridor Early shop-name recognition Large type and brief brand elements Main fascia sign
Corner location Signal both approach directions Both faces readable Full wayfinding system
Mall walkway A distant recognition point Simple logo and colour Fascia requirements
Multi-tenant site Help locate the unit Clear name and unit information Full directory

The two faces do not need identical content

Both faces should retain the same brand core: logo, colours, typeface and name. However, information can be adjusted slightly if viewing distance or approach direction differs. One face may show only the brand name and icon; the other may add a short category statement. Each face still needs to be understood quickly.

Use it as a find-the-shop marker

The main fascia confirms the shop itself. A double-sided lightbox is more useful for answering where the shop is before a customer arrives. Do not use conflicting colours, typefaces or name versions. For chains, logo proportion, brand colour, naming and unit information should follow one standard.

Placement matters more than adding more signs

The lightbox normally needs to sit perpendicular to the direction of travel to be seen from both sides. Check obstruction to walkways, fire equipment, sightlines and neighbouring shops; possible blocking by columns or ceilings; and property requirements for size, materials, height, electrical work and installation timing.

Illumination is not a reason for more information

Illumination can help a display be seen in dim conditions, but being seen is not the same as being understood. Make the shop name largest and clearest, use limited high-contrast colours, avoid long sentences and dense phone details, and keep adequate whitespace.

Clarify maintenance and electrical scope before quotation

A double-sided lightbox involves structure, illumination, fixing, electrical connection and future maintenance. Confirm dimensions, face coverage, frame and display face, internal lighting, installation and testing, update method, and treatment of local lighting faults or information changes. Where electrical installation or alteration is involved, use an appropriately qualified person or contractor for the actual scope.

Frequently asked questions

Is a double-sided lightbox always better than a single-sided one?

No. A single-sided unit may be enough when customers mainly approach from one direction. Dual faces suit clear two-way traffic.

Must the two faces have exactly the same artwork?

The brand core should match, but information can be refined for distance and approach direction. Do not create two different brand versions.

Can a double-sided lightbox be installed indoors or outdoors?

Both can be suitable. The decision depends on movement, viewing distance, property conditions and installation method.

Can it display short-term promotions?

Yes, but short-term offers should not displace long-term brand recognition. Plan a stable brand area and an updateable campaign area.

Can it replace the main shopfront sign?

Usually not. It is a supporting recognition point that helps customers find the shop.

Can a mall tenant install one freely?

Requirements differ by property. Confirm size, material, location, electrical work, installation timing and approval conditions first.

Does a larger lightbox always improve visibility?

No. Location, orientation, text size, contrast and surrounding obstruction matter too.

Can each face use a different language?

Yes, provided each face remains quick to understand. Do not sacrifice clarity merely to add more languages.

Can the display face be updated later?

That depends on the structure and fabrication method. State campaign and brand-update needs before quotation.

What is needed for a quotation?

Provide site photos, shop location, corridor directions, intended mounting point, logo, brand colours and the main message.

A good double-sided lightbox does not make customers see more information. It helps them find the shop earlier and more easily from the right direction. Understand the movement path first, then decide placement, message and installation scope.
